Two Art Deco boxes by Pierre Turin, the first of silver, the removable cover relief-decorated with a standing nude maiden flanked by attendants, within an octagonal frame signed P. Turin, the base inscribed ‘Exposition des Arts Decoratifs 1925, Ateliers de la Gerbe d’Or, exemplaire No 42’, ‘800’ standard control mark; the second electro-plated, the hinged lid relief decorated with a nude maiden watching over two cherubs, signed Pierre Turin, the underside also relief-decorated, with rose blooms superimposed on an open casket, first diameter 9cm, second 7.5cm. Pierre Turin (1891-1968): medallist and silversmith. Perhaps his most famous work is the medal he produced for the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs, the very exhibition that gave the Art Deco style its name.
