The mint at Broach, situated north of Surat on the Narmada river, opened in the mid-18th century. The Company took it over in 1803 following the treaty of Bassein and copper pice were produced there haphazardly during the 1820s, some overstruck on issues of Baroda. The mint was closed in February 1831
