Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), Penny, Small Flan type, Oxford, Brihtwig [Beorhtwig], brihtpi on oxa, 1.01g/6h (Freeman –; BMC –; N 818; S 1175). Good very fine, attractive dark patina, very rare £300-£360

Found near Nuneham Courtenay (South Oxfordshire) in late 2019 (PAS OXON-B762F7)

The moneyer Brihtwig is otherwise unknown at Oxford, but is attested at Malmesbury [rendered brihtpi] where his career began in the succeeding Expanding Cross type.
