Roman, iron nails (2), 1st century AD, 20cm and 16cm, large flat heads with square-shaped shafts [2]. Rusty; sold in a display case £20-£30

From the legionary fortress of Inchtuthil in Perthshire; these nails come from a large stash found in a 12 foot deep pit where they were hidden to prevent them falling in the hands of Scottish tribes who would have used them to make weapons. They would also be the type of nail used in the crucifixion of Christ.
