Charles I (1625-1649), Tower mint, Shilling, Gp C, mm. plume, bust 2, plume over shield, 5.59g/2h (Sharp C2/4; SCBI Brooker 455, same dies; N 2222; S 2788). A piece of fine work from carefully engraved dies with guide lines within both inner and outer beaded circles, well-centred on a round flan, gilt and crudely pierced, otherwise about very fine, rare £150-£180

Michael Sharp, in his article on the Tower shillings of Charles I (BNJ 1977, pp.102-113), states that the flans for the fine work shillings were possibly machine-made.
