Thomas Arnold was born in Hackney, Middlesex, and attested for the Royal Irish Fusiliers at Tottenham. He served with the 5th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 7 August 1915, and died in Bulgaria on 30 September 1918, aged 27 years. He is buried in Plovdiv Central Cemetery, Bulgaria.
