Mark Tyron Hawkins, a porter from East Huntspill, Somerset, was born in 1893. He attested into the Royal Engineers for service during the Great War and served on the Western Front.

Thomas R. Hawkins, son of the above, was born on 10 October 1931. Conscripted for National Service, he served in Malaya, during the Malayan emergency with the Somerset Light Infantry.
