John Cunningham, a labourer, was born in Irvine, Ayrshire, on 1 April 1892. He attested into the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, on 9 February 1915 and served on the Western Front with the 28th (Saskatchewan) Battalion. Advanced Sergeant, he was awarded the Military Medal in August 1918.
Sold together with copied service papers, sergeant stripes and blue chevrons, and a small contemporary flag.
