David Taylor was born at New Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, on 22 June 1944 and attested for the Royal Air Force on 13 February 1962. He transferred to he Reserve on 21 June 1971, after 9 years and 130 days’ service as an Instrument Fitter, and subsequently joined the Merchant Navy as a Fireman/ Greaser.
