Richard Wilson was born in Bolton, Lancashire, in 1839 and attested there for the 101st Regiment of Foot on 10 May 1859. He served with the Regiment in India, and was discharged, unfit for further service, on 6 September 1870, after 11 years and 61 days’ service.
