James Bradshaw (alias Burridge) was born in the Parish of Turvey, near Turney, Bedfordshire. He enlisted into the 14th Light Dragoons, for unlimited service, at Kingston, Surrey, on 5 June 1805, aged 22 years. He served for a total of 24 years 235 days, including 6 years 236 days as a Sergeant, and was discharged at Leeds Barracks on 14 November 1829, in consequence of impaired vision, the effects of age.
