James Brett was born in Reepham, Norfolk in 1814. A labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the 45th Company Royal Marines in June 1833. Between 1834 and 1855 he served aboard the ships Thunderer, Volage, Columbine, Aeolus, Prince Regent, Boscarron, Poitiers and Wellesley; serving aboard the Columbine in the China campaign. Sold with a quantity of copied service papers.
