Sergeant-Major William Stentiford was recommended for the M.S.M. in November 1897 by the G.O.C. Aldeshot when he was Militia Sergeant-Major of the 3rd, late 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment. He had served some 22 years, with 13 overseas.
