Frederick Fowebraker was born in Shrewsbury in April 1880 and entered the Royal Navy as an Acting E.R.A. 4th Class in July 1903. Having served in H.M.S. Proserpine off Somaliland in 1908, he was seconded for service with the Canadian Navy 1910-13, and was serving in the cruiser Blake on the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914. Removing to the destroyer Rifleman in July 1915, he was confirmed in the rate of C.E.R.A. 2nd Class in February 1916 and came ashore to Victory II that July. Between October 1916 and August 1917 he served on Malta, but thereafter until the end of the War, served at several shore establishments back in the U.K. Fowebraker, who was awarded his L.S. & G.C. in July 1918, remained a regular until being pensioned ashore in September 1926.
