2nd Lieutenant Charles Edward Hoare Hales, 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, died on 22 November 1917, aged 31 years. He was buried in Bathwick (St. Mary the Virgin) Churchyard, Somerset. He was the son of the late Major-General Arthur Hales, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, Commandant Straits Settlements.
