Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (609. Sergt. Inst: in Guny. R. Heaver. 2nd. Bde. Lanc: Div: R.A.) good very fine £70-£90

Richard Ellis, alias Heaver was born in Upton, Berkshire, in 1852, and attested for the Royal Artillery at Woolwich on 11 January 1971. Posted to “C” Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery, he was posted to India from 18 October 1872 to 9 December 1876 and raised Acting Bombardier on 8 January 1880. Completing short and long courses in gunnery in 1885 and 1887, he furthered this knowledge with a course of instruction at the Royal Small Arms Factory (Birmingham) in July 1889 and was raised Sergeant Instructor of Gunnery, attached Southern Division. Discharged 10 January 1904, his Army Service Record states his conduct as ‘exemplary’.
