Daniel Forester Guppy was born in St. Helier, Jersey, in January 1882. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in January 1900, and advanced to Petty Officer 2nd Class in January 1905. His service included with H.M. Ships Hindustan from May 1912 to April 1916; Royal Sovereign from April to November 1916; and Veron. Guppy was shore pensioned as Petty Officer 1st Class in January 1922.

Edward Drew was born in Hackney, London, in July 1878. He attested for the Portsmouth Division, Royal Marines at London in August 1896, and advanced to Sergeant in January 1904. Drew was invalided out of service on 12 November 1913.
