57th (West Middlesex) Regiment Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate c.1840-55
A burnished gilt rectangular back plate with various mounts comprising the multi-rayed silver Grand Cross of the Bath star, on this in gilt metal a crowned cross, the arms bearing six battle honours. Laurel sprays enclose the Bath motto and insignia of three crowns, these only on a ground of red enamel. At the base of the laurels the Prince of Wales’s motto, ‘Ich Dien’, below the cross a silver oval bearing the engine turned numerals ’57’, complete with hook and stud fasteners, very fine condition £400-£500
