Memorial Plaque (Cyril Henry Leney) minor staining to obverse, very fine (5) £140-£180

Thomas Reed, a native of Elswick, Newcastle-on-Tyne, was born in 1892 and attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers. He served with the 11th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 25 August 1915, and was killed in action whilst serving with VII Platoon, “B” Company, on 7 June 1917, on the first day of the Battle of Messines. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.

Cyril Henry Leney was born in West Hoathly in 1900 and attested for the Army Service Corps Motorised Transport at Devizes on 26 October 1916. Subsequently transferring to the 15th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, on 31 March 1918, he was killed in action on 27 May 1918 and is buried at Hermonville Military Cemetery, France.
