William Amos Broom was born in Newton Abbot, Devon, in 1861. Moving to Teignmouth, he was employed as Chief Roadman by the local Urban District Council for 38 years and in that capacity he volunteered for the Teignmouth Fire Brigade for nearly 40 years. He died in Teignmouth on 6 February 1934, aged 72, and received a Fireman’s funeral service.
