279 Military General Service Medals in total issued in 1847 to the 11th Foot, 62 of which (22%) are recorded as extant to the 11th Foot.

Joseph Mellinsh (also recorded as Melluish), a native of Oldham, Lancashire, was born c.1789. A tailor by occupation, he attested for the 11th Regiment of Foot on 1 May 1809 and was wounded in the left arm near Mayo Heights on 10 November 1813. Admitted for Pension ‘due to loss of left arm above the elbow’ on 16 September 1814, after 5 years and 122 days’ service, he was granted a pension of 1/- per day for life.
