C. A. Wilding commanded the 10th Brigade (1st Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment; 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment; 2nd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders; and 2nd Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers), on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916, on which date they were tasked with attacking the Redan Ridge between Serre and Beaumont-Hamel.
