Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Wm. Harvey. Caulker. H.M.S. London.) engraved naming, minor edge bruise, good very fine £120-£160
William Harvey was born in Monkton, Ayrshire, in November 1840, and joined the Royal Navy as Shipwright on 19 October 1864. Posted to Narcissus, Indus and Asia, he survived the wreck of the wooden screw sloop H.M.S. Niobe off Miquelon Island (near Newfoundland) on 21 May 1874. Noted on his service record as ‘very trustworthy and conduct exemplary’, He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 26 October 1876 and was shore pensioned on 29 October 1884.
