Joseph Reid Stirrat was born in Scotland on 5 January 1915 and attested for the 56th (Independent) Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, Royal Artillery, in 1939. He served with them unit throughout the Second World War, being awarded the British Empire Medal, ands was discharged on 25 November 1945. He died in Scotland on 18 November 1979.
