Charles Alfred Booth was born in Eastbourne in 1892 and attested for the 5th Sussex Service Battery, Royal Field Artillery, on 23 September 1910. Posted to India on 29 October 1914, he transferred to Mesopotamia on 18 October 1917 with “A” Battery, 221st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, and was later appointed Shoeing Smith on 8 July 1918. He was demobilised in February 1919.
