Ernest Henry Stewart Browne initially served during the Great War as Lieutenant in an Anti-Aircraft Section of the Royal Garrison Artillery. Promoted Captain and later, Major, he was Mentioned in Despatches and was awarded the French Croix de Guerre in the London Gazette of 18 April 1918.

William Thomas Cuthbert initially served during the Great War with the Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery Territorial Force. Posted to France from November 1915, he was promoted Captain and later awarded a Silver War Badge.
