William James Wicks was born in Hoo, Suffolk, and attested for the Suffolk Regiment at Ipswich. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front and was killed in action on 13 November 1916; he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
