After placing considerable pressure on the Privy Council, it was finally agreed that Nicholas Briot should recoin withdrawn foreign specie, mainly European Thalers, into Twelve- and Six-Shilling pieces using his new mill and screw machine. Most of the coins would have been struck between summer 1637 and spring 1638.
