Roman Imperial Coinage, Augustus (27 BC-AD 14), Denarius, Lugdunum, AD 13-14, caesar [–]ivi f pater patriae around laureate head of Augustus right, rev. pontif [–] around draped female figure, possibly Livia as Ceres, seated right on low-backed chair, holding sceptre upright behind in right hand and bundle of corn-ears in left, foot on stool, 3.57g/12h (Ghey 375, this coin; BMC 545-46; RIC 220; RSC 223). Fine and rare £90-£120

This type, struck toward the end of Augustus’ reign, was later copied by Tiberius as the principle type for his denarius, known as the ‘Tribute penny’, of which there is an extensive collection within this hoard.
