Greek Coinages, PTOLEMAIC EMPIRE, Ptolemy I (as King, 306/5-283/2): Tetradrachm, struck at Memphis, c. 306-303

Obverse: head of Alexander the Great right, wearing elephant-scalp headdress which transitions to scaly aegis tied below chin, diadem across forehead, curling ram’s horn growing from temple

Reverse: αλεχανδρου: Athena Promachos striding right, draped over shoulders, brandishing javelin and holding shield, eagle standing before; monograms [ηδε, κε] in fields

Metal: silver; reduced Attic standard; 15.68g/12h

Condition: Light marks in reverse field, extremely fine and toned; with a superb portrait of Alexander £2,000-£2,600
