Three: Private A. Gould, Monmouthshire Regiment

Alfred Gould, a native of Breconshire who was born in 1891, enlisted in the 3rd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment in October 1914 and first entered the French theatre of war as a Private in early June 1915. In November of the same year he was admitted to 24 General Hospital at Etaples suffering from inflamation of his right foot, but clearly he recovered and witnessed further active service, being discharged from the 2nd Battalion in medical category ‘A1’ at Shrewsbury in January 1919.

Sold with original Territorial Force Record Office letter, dated 17 November 1915, informing Gould’s father of his hospitalization, together with his ‘Protection Certificate and Certificate of Identity’, dated at Shrewsbury on 7 January 1919, and his National Health Insurance card.
