Walter Domoney was born in King William’s Town, Cape Province. During the Boer War he served for 9 months in the Border Horse and for 6 months in the Kaffrarian Rifles. Employed as an Engine Driver / Fireman, he attested for service with the 5th South African Infantry on 1 December 1915 but was discharged as medically unfit on 16 September 1916. He then successfully attested for service with the South African Railway Overseas Dominions Section on 22 November 1916. Posted to the B.E.F., he served in France, March-October 1917 and May 1918-February 1919, being discharged in South Africa on 22 July 1919. Sold with copied service papers.
