Irish Constabulary Badge of Merit, silver arm badge, 57 x 44mm., reverse engraved, ‘Jas. Cowming, Constable’, reverse fitted with four small loops for attachment, nearly extremely fine and rare £500-600
James Cowming, a farmer by occupation and a Roman Catholic by belief, entered the Irish Constabulary on 18 May 1839, aged 20 years. Numbered ‘3542’ on the General Register, he attained the rank of 2nd Head Constable in March 1862. He died on 19 February 1869.
