Northumberland Militia Artillery, a most rare officer’s helmet plate 1854-c56, as worn on the leather helmet, a plated crowned rococo plate bearing a beaded silver star with central gilt mount,being the Garter Motto and cross (enamels missing), below the mount crossed cannon barrels in gilt, large plated laurel sprays in three-quarter surround with an applied plated scroll at the base ‘Northumberland’ (see p122 ‘The Militia Artillery’ NEHL), provision for five short screw posts (two missing), slight wear to the plating and sundry contemporary strengthening fixings to the reverse, otherwise very good condition £700-900
This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Artillery Insignia formed by the late Norman Litchfield.
