Alfred Anderson was born on 2 October 1842 and educated privately at home. Commissioned into the Indian Army on 20 October 1859, he gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in October 1885 and served in the Suakin expedition of 1885-86 and Burmese expedition of 1889, receiving medals for both. He was promoted Colonel in October 1889 and appointed Commandant of the 8th Madras Native Infantry in March 1890. Anderson attained the rank of Major-General in October 1898 and retired the following month. He died on 12 July 1909. Sold with some copied research.
