Raymond Herbert Price was born on 23 September 1868 and in 1893 qualified as M.B., C.M. at the University of Edinburgh. He entered the Indian Medical Service as a Surgeon-Lieutenant in January 1897. With them he saw service on the N.W. Frontier 1897-98, for which he received the I.G.S. Medal with two clasps. Promoted to Captain in January 1900, he next saw service in the Nandi Expedition, 1905-06. In 1907 he became a F.R.C.S. Edinburgh and in July 1908 was promoted to Major; gaining the Diploma of Tropical Medicine at London in 1912. In the Great War he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in July 1916, and served in Egypt 1915; Macedonia 1915-16; with the Egypt Expeditionary Force 1916-17, and in Persia and the Persian Gulf during 1918-19. He retired from the service on 13 February 1922.
