Lieutenant-Colonel Hugh Seymour David Stuart served with the Northamptonshire Regiment in the operations on the North West Frontier of India, 1897-98, including opeartions on the Samana; also with the Tirah Expeditionary Force (Medal with 3 clasps). He served as a Major in the Army Pay Department with the B.E.F. in France and Belgium from 10 August 1914 (Ref. War Services - MIC says from 12th August) until 3 March 1916. He was appointed Staff Paymaster with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in April 1919.
