Pair: Corporal W. Denning South African Light Horse

Walter Denning was born in Exeter, Devonshire. During the Boer War he saw service with the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles, Natal Volunteer Ambulance Corps and South African Light Horse. Sold with original Certificate of Discharge from the S.A.L.H. which states that he attested at Dunbar on 3 March 1900 at the age of 30 years, and his discharge, as a consequence of disbandment of the regiment, on 15 October 1902. Also states entitlement to ‘Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek, Belfast, Cape Colony, Orange Free State’ and ‘King’s Coronation Medal’. On the back of the certificate is a hand-written list of 22 engagements the recipient (?) had been involved in - including Colenso, Vaal Kranz, Spion Kop, Relief of Ladysmith, Belfast and Lydenburg. Also with roll extracts; that from the S.A.L.H. confirming the four mounted clasps and previous service in the J.M.R. and N.V.A.C.; that of the N.V.A.C. confirming the ‘Relief of Ladysmith’ clasp and that of the J.M.R. confirming the ‘Transvaal’ clasp. Also with copied service papers and details on the South African Light Horse.
