Alexander Henry Allan first entered the French theatre of war as a Lance-Corporal in the 9th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry on 5 November 1914. Commissioned into the Royal Air Force in October 1918, he served as a Flying Officer in the Iraq operations 1919-20 and was a Squadron Leader in Aden at the time of receiving his Coronation Medal 1937 (official roll refers). Allan was advanced to Wing Commander (E.) in April 1939 and was posted to No. 3 Electrical & Wireless School at Compton Bassett shortly after the outbreak of hostilities, but died at the R.A.F. Officers’ Hospital, Torquay on 20 October 1940. He is buried Torquay Cemetery and Extension.
