Sisson Cooper Pratt was born on 24 June 1844. In July 1861 he was appointed a Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Woolwich. Appointed a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in June 1863 and was posted to India in 1864. Served in the Bhootan Campaign, 1864-65. Served throughout the war with the Left Brigade of the Dooar Field Force and was present at the capture of Dalimkote, the engagements at Chumurchi and Nagoo, and the recapture of the Bala Pass. He graduated from the Staff College at Camberley in 1874 and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Artillery Institution. During 1875-79 he was an Instructor in Tactics at the Royal Military College at Sandhurst, being promoted to Captain in January 1876. Served as Professor of Military History at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, 1879-89, being promoted to Major in January 1883 and to Lieutenant-Colonel in January 1889. Placed on Half Pay in September 1889 and on Retired Pay in January 1890; Lieutenant-Colonel Pratt died in July 1919.
