Cyrill Higgins was born in Coaley, Dursley, Gloucestershire on 5 September 1867. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted in the Royal Marines at Gloucester on 5 October 1885. He was promoted to Corporal in December 1892 and Sergeant in August 1900. He was discharged on 21 November 1906 having been awarded the long service medal in November 1900. He served in the Royal Fleet Reserve, 1906-14 and was mobilised on 2 August 1914, serving throughout the war at the Plymouth Depot. Demobilised on 4 September 1919, he was paid a war gratuity of £20. Awarded the R.M. Meritorious Service Medal in 1946, he was ‘discharged dead’ on 4 May 1949. With copied service notes.
