Three: Corporal H. Best, Somerset Light Infantry

South Africa 1877-79, no clasp (36/1653 Pte. H. Best, 1/13th Foot); Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 1 clasp, The Nile 1884-85 (1653 Corpl. H. Best, 1/Som. L.I.) naming re-engraved; Khedive’s Star 1884-6, together with contemporary ribbon bar, light pitting, otherwise nearly very fine or better (3) £300-350

2 officers and 26 other ranks of the Somerset Light Infantry served in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment on the Nile, just 7 men receiving this single clasp, the remainder also being present at Abu Klea.

Herbert Best was born at Crewkerne, Somerset, and enlisted there into the 36th Brigade on 15 January 1879, aged 18. He served with the 1/13th Regiment in South Africa and in Egypt on the Nile Expedition, and was discharged on 14 January 1891. Sold with copy discharge papers.
