1 officer and 55 other ranks of the Essex Regiment served in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment on the Nile, of whom 22 were also present at Abu Klea.
Charles Baker was born in Kensington, London, and enlisted into the 56th Regiment (2/Essex) at Westminster on 27 July 1870, aged 18 years 6 months. He was appointed Lance-Corporal in May 1887 and discharged on 9 April 1891. Sold with copy discharge papers.
