William Aggett enlisted at South Brisbane, Queensland. As a Lieutenant serving with the 9th (Queensland) Battalion A.I.F., he was killed in action on 23 July 1916, in the attack along the Pozieres Ridge during the Battle of the Somme. It was in this attack that Private John Leak, 9th Battalion, A.I.F. won the Victoria Cross. Having no known grave, Aggett’s name is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
