Archibald Colin Campbell was born in 1819, younger son of Robert Campbell by Susan, daughter and heiress of the late A. Renton, Esq. Appointed Ensign in the 42nd Highlanders, 24 February 1837; Lieutenant, 23 August 1839; Captain, 6 December 1844; Major 12 December 1854. Resigned his commission upon succeeding his brother in 1856 and assumed the additional surname of Renton. Was afterwards a magistrate for county Berwick. He died on 25 November 1867.
