D.C.M. London Gazette 3 March 1917:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He rescued several wounded men under very heavy fire and continuously led attacks with great gallantry.’
George Porteous served during the Great War with the 1/6th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment on the Western Front (entitled to Great War pair). He subsequently advanced to Acting Sergeant and transferred to the 10th (Service) Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment.
