The Uniform Coinage of India, East India Company, Victoria, silver Rupee, 1840, type I [D/II], Madras, bust left, s [John Smith] on truncation, victoria queen continuous, rev. one rupee, yek rupiya surrounded by laurel wreath with 19 berries, east india company around, date below in large numerals with stop to right, no privy mark, edge grained, 11.66g/12h (Prid. 45 [Sale, lot 25]; SW 2.26; KM. 457.6). An early currency strike, trifling obverse bagmarks, virtually as struck, reverse brilliant and proof-like, most attractive £150-£200
