The Uniform Coinage of India, East India Company, Victoria, original silver Proof Rupee, 1840, type I [D/II], Madras, bust left, s [John Smith] on truncation, victoria queen continuous, rev. one rupee, yek rupiya surrounded by laurel wreath with 19 berries, east india company around, date below in large numerals with stop to right, no privy mark, edge grained, 11.68g/12h (Prid. 46 [not in Sale]; SW 2.27; KM. –; cf. Fore I, 598 [= SJA 52, 3270]). Brilliant, rainbow toning with fully reflective surfaces, a magnificent coin and extremely rare £4,000-£5,000
