During 1899-1902 William Chisholm Macdonald served as Surgeon aboard the Union Castle Steamship Company’s ship Harlech Castle and was also Civil Surgeon with the South African Field Force and Kimberley Hospital. He held the qualifications of M.D. Edinburgh 1902; M.B., Ch.B. 1898; F.R.C.S. Edinburgh 1902; M.R.C.S. England 1899; L.R.C.P. London 1902.
