James Muir Ewing was first commissioned on 16 October 1885, being appointed to the Madras Royal Volunteers. Promoted to Captain in August 1890, Major in October 1905 and Lieutenant-Colonel in April 1908. Awarded the Decoration in August 1907. Latterly Officer Commandant at Bangalore. Retired in 1911. With some copied service notes.
